Leslie’s Views on Mental Health and Wellness and Other Topics
As part of our effort to help connect you with a clinician that would best serve you, here are Leslie’s opinions and perspectives on the following important topics.
When I first began my journey into clinical social work in 1990, I was driven by a desire to make a difference in people’s lives. I choose to embrace an evidence- and strengths-based approach that prioritizes the inherent value and potential of every individual.
I believe challenges are opportunities for growth. We develop coping strategies that are rooted in our values and experiences. This approach has also been a source of personal growth. Therapy includes providing solutions and also fostering an environment where clients can explore and discover their own paths forward.
I believe that medication use should be tailored to everyone’s unique needs and circumstances. The best practice involves carefully weighing benefits, risks, and side effects. After those aspects are considered, I see the use of medication as one part of a comprehensive treatment plan, including therapy and self-care strategies.
It’s easy to become discouraged by some of the issues we face, but a strengths-based approach reminds us that change is always possible. Every small step we take towards our goals is evidence of courage, resilience, and potential.
I am inspired daily by the capacity for change and healing that exists within each person.
